A staggering one in four Australians over 25 are considered to be pre-diabetic. One in 10 Australians are already Diabetic, that’s 280 Aussies a day diagnosed which costs our economy $14.6 billion a year. WTF?

A combination of excess consumption of processed foods and a sedentary lifestyle has provided the perfect storm for an epidemic. If pre-diabetes is left untreated, it can develop into Type 2 diabetes within 5 years and nobody want’s that especially when it’s completely unnecessary and can be stopped in it’s tracks.

Type 2 diabetes doesn’t have to be a finality and it’s not something that needs to lived with. Period.

People do have to be willing to make some changes in their life though and without that dedicated commitment taking place, a life with insulin shots is a sure thing. It all comes down to choice. Are you prepared to take the action necessary to get your health and wellbeing back on track?

Nobody needs to be faced with the prospect of loosing a limb or loosing their sight.

Inflammation is the root of all disease. Reduce the inflammation and all signs point to us being able to see drastic positive changes occur for many autoimmune and lifestyle related diseases of which Diabetes Type 2 is one.

What causes inflammation?

  • A diet high in processed food and refined carbohydrates.
  • Stress.
  • Inadequate hydration.
  • Gluten.
  • Lack of physical activity.
  • Environmental toxicity.

Tackle these factors and you are well on your way to being free from the scourge that is Type 2 diabetes.

We’ve spoken at length about the importance of a wholefood diet rich in veggies, high quality fats and high quality grass fed organic protein (or properly prepared legumes). Ditch the gluten and vegetable oils such as canola once and for all as they do only harm. Steer clear of processed foods or those that comes packaged at the supermarket. Made from scratch with your own hands is best.

Re-think that carb-heavy breakfast. Wheat-bix or Toast with Honey isn’t going to cut it. Try something with a larger proportion of protein and healthy fats (if you aren’t eating breakfast with us that is). Pasture-raised eggs and avocado smash is a great option on a slice of Lifebread.

For the love of god PLEASE don’t follow the Dieticians Association of Australia Diabetes Dietary Recommendations. A diet high in refined carbohydrates and processed food is NOT going to help someone with diabetes, it’s only going to keep them trapped in the cycle forever. Truth. Question everything. Dig deeper and you will see that such recommendations are completely based in fallacy and deception.

If you love fruit, skip the orange juice and eat a whole orange instead. At least you get some fibre to slow the injection of sugar into your bloodstream. Don’t go crazy on the fruit, it’s something to be regarded as a sweet. If you are making your own cold pressed juices remember to follow the 80/20 rule that is 80% vegetables and no more than 20% fruit.

Skip the sugar in your coffee or go Bulletproof style instead sweetened with a little Stevia or Cinnamon essential oil instead. In fact, studies have shown that cinnamon is a terrific regulator of both cholesterol and blood sugar.

A great diet must be accompanied by plenty of filtered water for proper hydration. Aim for 2-3L a day and keep a water bottle on you at all times. Not plastic please BPA’s will ruin all your good low tox work.

Move your body. It doesn’t have to be a full throttle workout, a simple walk is just fine but it needs to be for a minimum of 30 minutes a day everyday. If you are in a sedentary role make the effort to get up every 20-30 minutes and stretch your body out. Perhaps do some squats, lunges or star jumps to get the blood flowing. Physical movement flushes excess cortisol (stress hormone) from our body so it’s well worth it.

Speaking of stress, it’s a little harder to control for sure. Our families can be stressful, our boss, our job…we get it. Your choices are- a) learn to deal with the stress better or b) remove it from your life as much as possible. Mindfulness Meditation is one great tool to manage stress better as is simply getting outdoors and grounding yourself. Essential oils can also play a significant supporting role in reducing and managing your stress levels, we can help you introduce them to your life.

We’ve touched on the topic of environmental toxicity before but here is another quick run down. Environmental toxins are what you put on your body, on your face, your perfume, what you scent your home with, your cleaning products, car fumes….get it? If you don’t recognise an ingredient or can’t pronounce it, don’t use it OR check it’s safety rating first using the EWG. Reduce your toxic burden as much as possible.

It’s not hard guys, these are really simple steps to beat type 2 diabetes. They just take you making a choice and a commitment. You can do this.

We recently spent four days with some incredible medical professionals who are exploring the use of essential oils instead of traditional western medicine and integrating them into their clinics for diabetes treatment with fantastic results.

They spoke at length on the topic of diabetes and the different factors at play. As we mentioned above, simple steps such as lifestyle changes are imperative but essential oils are a legitimate method of managing Type 2 diabetes and the resulting implications such as impaired circulation in the extremities and neuropathy.

There are 5 oils specifically that are backed with research and results.

Coriander: has dual blood glucose-lowering effects in diabetes. It works both by enhancing the secretion of insulin from the pancreas and exhibiting insulin-like activity at the cellular level.

Grapefruit: increases the body’s sensitivity to blood glucose, supports the liver and kidneys and detoxifies the body.

Cinnamon Bark: reduces glucose, triglyceride, LDL cholesterol, and total cholesterol levels in subjects with Type 2 diabetes. Also improves liver function, inhibits new fat cells from forming (adipogenesis), assists in reducing diabetic risk and helps with serum lipid balance.

Juniper Berry: increase insulin production, sensitisation of receptors and increase blood flow. Also supports kidney health and protects the pancreas.

The Metabolic Blend: supports a healthy metabolism, natural appetite suppressant, blood sugar stabiliser, prevents sugar cravings, detoxifies the body.

These oils work together to detoxify the system, reduce inflammation, protect tissues, promote a heathy metabolism, balance the blood sugar, support the kidneys and enable the pancreas to perform in a normal manner by increasing the output and production of insulin.

They also work to stimulate the activation of insulin receptors on the cell wall which have become desensitised and wake them back up and get them functioning again. They facilitate proper cellular communication.

Combine with the Lifelong Vitality Supplementation pack which provide the necessary cofactors for cellular health and metabolic function and inflammation reduction……what have you got to loose but your health??
