One of the brains behind My Goodness Organics
Here we go!
What does happiness feel like to you?
Happiness is feeling that natural buzz and butterflies in your tummy when you just know that everything is working out as it needs to. You’re in alignment with the universe and what she holds for you and you can’t wait to experience it all!
Happiness is walking through a damp forest and breathing in that gorgeous mulchy eucalypti aroma, getting back from an early morning run and feeling how alive and awake my body is, motorbike riding through the mountains of Tasmania with my manly man and not a care in the world other than staying on the bike, curling up on the couch with a fresh cup of chai and a good book, cooking up a storm with my family and then enjoying it all with so much laughter and stupidity and catching up with my besties to confide, debrief and encourage like only your girlfriends can.
What are 3 things you can’t live without?
Coconut Oil, Green Smoothies and Raw Cacao oh and music, I can’t live without music…….
What’s your top priority when it comes to your health?
Avoiding sugar, exercising and making sure my immune system is kept in tip top shape. I battled Graves’ Disease for over 8 years (overactive Thyroid) through my 20’s and as a result of this, my immune system is always going to be a little bit weakened.
Through getting to know and be in touch with my body though, I can now recognize those early warning signs when I need to chill out and give my body a break and avoid the need for medication. There was a time when my thought process ran something like this when I feeling run down- exercise crazily and push myself to the limit because of the strange notion that I needed to flush and sweat it out of my body! Needless to say I ended up very sick with constant colds, flu’s and other illnesses.
It’s all so very different now, I don’t beat myself up with guilt if I don’t exercise for a day or two and I’m content knowing that I’m giving my body the nourishment and rest that it needs. I am a firm believer in that the right nutrition and lifestyle can cure all without the need for medication. Doctor’s and their prescriptions just don’t sit right with me.
What’s a piece of advice you would give to someone just starting out on their Happy Healthy journey?
Be Kind to yourself. Don’t be so mean and berate yourself all the time. Whether it be quieting those mean girl thoughts of “I look really fat today” or “I’m not doing anything with my life”, find a way to shut them down and let them go.
Replace them with thoughts that are gentle and encouraging like “I am so beautiful and I love myself wholly and unconditionally”.
It takes time to create the change but as you begin to recognize those mean girl thoughts you will be able to instantly replace them with something better and boy does it lighten your spirit and the ridiculous load we put upon ourselves.
What is your fav healthy snack?
I love a good bliss ball and tend to have a variety of homemade versions on hand at any one time. I am also absolutely smitten with CoYo Coconut Yoghurt and am trying desperately to recreate it myself so that my addiction doesn’t break the bank. Smashed avocado with lemon, salt and pepper on brown rice cakes though with the ripest and most gorgeously scented tomatoes is pretty damn amazing as well mmmmmm…… Can you tell I love snacks!?
If you could have any job in the world, what would it be?
My Goodness Organics of course! At some stage a little further down the track though I can definitely see myself branching out into health and nutrition education classes of some sort as I really do love inspiring change in behaviour and habits.
My side project is to attempt to remove the vice from people’s daily lives such as popular “Energy” drinks. They have a hold on so many people and they don’t realize that they have an addiction that is doing themselves as much damage as recreational drugs.
What is your passion?
Creating healthy meals and treats that surprise even the most junk food loving individual. To educate, inspire and create change in people’s diets through casual conversations, leading by example and letting them experience good healthy food for themselves and how it positively impacts their body.
When do you feel most confident?
Upon finishing a workout or morning run. I feel invincible and alive with confidence and just know that it gives me a little extra sass in my step!
Who inspires you?
Jamie Oliver because he is putting his all into creating lasting and impactful change for the whole world through education, reform and doing battle with the way our food is produced. He is just the beez neez and I love him dearly for what he’s doing and wish him nothing but success.
Heather Pace from Sweetly Raw is just one kick arse chick who was my first introduction into just how amazing raw food treats could be. Her blog opened up my eyes to the possibilities and is the reason I began to experiment in the kitchen with creating healthy delights. Heather is at http://www.sweetlyraw.com/ and http://foodandyogaforlife.blogspot.com.au/ .
Don Tolman for enlightening me as to how incredibly smart our body is at healing through nutrition, lifestyle and self care. His no nonsense and simple explanations for how our body functions and why ailments occur in the first place is something everybody needs to hear and makes complete and utter sense. Don tours the country regularly throughout the year and I would definitely recommend heading along to watch him speak if you have the chance. You can check out his blog here http://thedontolman.com/blog/ .
